  T608: Chronic HP Test Failure
Posted on Tuesday, November 30 @ 17:08:11 MST by Christopher Price

On the eve of the LG PM-325's shipment to sales channels, we have to issue a public advisory to Sony Ericsson T608 owners: get your phones HP tested if at all possible.

It is now coming quite clear that the T608 suffers from a product-wide issue: RF that is too powerful. While many would consider RF to mean better signal, it does not. A phone with overpowering RF even in minor levels can cause network, phone, and call quality issues. Users complaining of a chronic Network Busy error can thank this same reason as well.

Again, if you have a T608, get it HP tested at any corporate (and even some affiliate) Sprint Stores. You may wind up with a free LG PM-325 out of it...

Does the stronger signal found in these phones mean that they are also more dangerous to use as well?

I know that you are not going to make any more announcements about the release of the LG PM-325, but I was wondering if you have heard anything about it? Why was the release pushed back? Do you have any idea about the new release date?

I dont really understand, are you telling me that I IWLL get a new phone if my T608 fails? Or are you just guessing? If this is a product wide thing, what do I need to do to get a new phone? I am sure that they are not just going to offer me one.

Here is the policy summed up for everyone:

Corporate Stores: Replace defective T608 with a new T608 until there are no more T608s (then replace with LG 325). If subsequent T608 replacements are also defective, store can replace with LG 325.

Affiliate Stores: Cannot order repalcement T608s, so have to replace with comparable model (LG 325).

I take my T608 to a SPCS store yesterday for HP testing. They give me a receipt and I come back in 30 minutes later. They tell me that they don't have the connector for the Sony phones and can't do it. :/ Waste of time.

So, I take my T608 to another Detroit store (less knowledgeable, IMO) and ask for HP testing. They go back and forth, first saying that they can HP test it though they do not have a Sony connector, then they say they can only do a software update, then they say they can again. Unbelievable. So I leave my phone with them for an hour, come back and they state that they couldn't duplicate my "network busy" error and if it persists to try and bring it in again later.

I don't know which store to believe, though I can tell the second store doesn't know their head from their rear end. Though its really my only problem (aside from 45 minutes of talk time) I do have a problem with network busy errors often...quite annoying.

Do you need to have the Sony connector at the store to do an HP test? Are there any other questions I should be asking the store beforehand?...though I shouldn't have to.

I called my local Sprint store (still almost an hour away for me) and asked the rep if they could do an HP test. He askes me, "what's an HP test." I say, "I'm not really sure, but in measures the RF level." He says, "oh yeah, we can do an RF test." So is that the same thing? What exactly is the RF test? I plan on driving up to the Sprint Store on Friday to get me phone tested (my 2 brothers also have T608s and I'll take their phones to get tested as well).

I purchased all 3 phones right before Christmas last year (the day the T608 was first made available), so the warranty is comming to a close. If my phones fail the test and I can't get an LG PM-325 and get a new T608 (or even if I do get the PM-325), then what is my warranty situation then? Do I get a new year on the replacement phone, or if there is a problem with the replacement phones do I have to have them tested again fore the 20th or so of December before my original warranty expires?

I've posted some good info on why some units are given potentially false positives for failing...
