Ford Selects Sprint, T608 For Bluetooth - $100 Rebate
Posted on Wednesday, September 01 @ 10:59:16 MDT by Christopher Price

In a bit of a surprise, Ford has chosen Sprint to be it's selected provider for Bluetooth phone compatibility in their Mobile-Ease handsfree addon, which should begin to appear in nearly all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

What is surprising is that Sprint has selected the SonyEricsson T608 as the phone to do the job. Considering that the LG PM-325 is expected out within a month however, it is an excellent way to deplete supply.

Sprint has chosen to partner with online retailer letstalk.com for the promotion, and has established a special sales page for the partnership.

A $100 mail-in rebate is being offered on the T608, the rebate form is nearly identical to the previous rebate form that surfaced. We are hosting it here, it does not require a new service activation, but requires a customer have at least a one-year agreement.

Folks, you can complain about the T608's problems, but at $99, there isn't a better phone out there...

Wow, I am a T608 lover for sure, but with the glitches it does have I hope this is not leading up to negative publicity. You have to be a bit of a die hard to really appreciate the T608, can you see all these soccer moms wondering why their T608 is freezing or powering down!?!?

Hopefully this means Sprint is starting to embrace bluetooth though, and that LG is not too far away.

According to the rebate, it says that you need to activate service. Where is this no new activation coming from?

So if someone is out of their year contract by a couple of months, could they still qualify for the $100 rebate, or would they have to sign another year contract to get that price...?

Correction: the Sony/Ericcson T637 is a far superior Blue Tooth phone, at $50 currently from Cingular and free from AT&T; Wireless.

Argh, it seems the T608 is out of stock when I called to see if I could order (another) one today. Can anyone confirm this, or did I just have a flakey rep?

What do you think are the chances of Sony providing bugfixes etc to support Clicker etc with the renewed interest in the phone? Or are these simply coming out of Sprint's stockpile?
